Japanese Calligraphy

This textile collection was inspired by my culture. I am half Japanese and half Mexican. I have always felt that it is important to involves aspects of myself in my designs. I choose Japanese Calligraphy, also known as shūji, because of its artistic characteristics and beautiful brush strokes. Growing up, we had Japanese paintings along my walls of my home with little accents of shūji. In my designs, I decided to play with the relationship between rough messy brush strokes and some watercolor aspects.
